The Envirothon competition is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students. The competition tests students' knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues. Lynchburg-Clay Team 3rd in the State
The Lynchburg-Clay Gold Envirothon team competed at the Ohio Envirothon on June 6-7 at Lake Erie College. The two-day competition tested the knowledge of the students on aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and an oral presentation on a current environmental topic. This year's topic was "wastes to resources". The Lynchburg-Clay team placed third overall in the Ohio Envriothon and received 1st place with their oral presentation. Local High School Students Advance to State
The Area 5 Soil & Water Conservation Districts held their Annual Envirothon on April 26, 2022, at Tar Hollow State Park in Laurelville, Ohio. The following schools proudly represented Highland County by participating in this year’s contest; Lynchburg Clay High School coached by Lara Hamilton, Hillsboro FFA coached by Libby McNeal and McClain FFA coached by Mike Sykes. A total of 36 teams took place in the Area Envirothon and the top four scoring teams from each Area event are eligible to compete in the State Envirothon. The Lynchburg Clay Gold team won first in the competition and the McClain FFA team placed fourth, making both teams eligible to compete in the State contest on June 5-7 at Lake Erie College.

Tri-County Practice Envirothon Held at Rocky Fork State Park
The 2022 Tri-County Practice Envirothon competition was held on March 30, 2022 at the Dovetail Activity Shelter located at the Rocky Fork State Park. The event was co-hosted by the Adams, Brown and Highland SWCD's with seventeen teams competing. Highland County had seven teams that represented Lynchburg-Clay, Hillsboro, Greenfield and White Oak High Schools .
The competition consisted of five students on a team, that tested their knowledge of aquatics, forestry, soil, wildlife and the current environmental topic. Once the test scores were tabulated, the Lynchburg-Clay Gold team placed 1st, Lynchburg-Clay Pups placed 2nd, McClain FFA 2 placed 3rd and the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs took 4th place in the event. Since this was a practice envirothon, all teams are eligible to compete in the Area 5 Envirothon to be held on April 26, 2022 at Tar Hallow State Park.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR TWO OUTSTANDING ENVIROTHON SENIORS

Two individuals that have devoted numerous hours of study time over the last four years to participate in the Envirothon program. Allison Kohus and Austin Leininger have both been devoted members of the Lynchburg-Clay Envirothon team that has competed in the practice, area levels through each of their high school years. Once the scores are tallied from the Area contest each year, the top 2-4 scoring teams from each of the five Areas are eligible to participate in the State Envirothon. It is an outstanding accomplishment that all four years both Allison and Austin’s team ranked high enough to move on the compete at the State level of the Envirothon competition.
2018 – Team won 1st place in the soils and won 4th overall in the state Envirothon
2019 – Team took 4th overall at the State level
2020 – All virtual contest across the state – Team once again won 4th place overall
2021 – Area and State level was virtual contest – Team won 2nd in the overall State Envirothon Congratulations to both Allison and Austin for this outstanding achievement!
